BJP thumped by Telugus in Karnataka
Did Telugu voter in Karnataka give a jolt to BJP? Initially the political analysts ruled it off basing on the trends that emerged during the counting. But after the total results were out, basing on the voting percentage in the constituencies, seats won by various parties, it is evident that the Telugus who settled in Karnataka gave a big blow to BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
BJP could not influence in the regions where Telugus’ settled. At the same time, people supported Congress and JDS in those places. It may be recalled that Telangana Chief Minister KCR, who visited Karnataka appealed to Telugu people there to support JDS. Political analysts feel that the impact was visible to a large extent.
On the other hand, the Telugus’ who migrated from Andhra Pradesh taught a lesson to BJP for not according Special Status to their home State. Even the BJP leaders are agreeing off the record that they would have crossed the magic figure if Telugu voters had voted for them. However, they are unable to express their views openly.
Though BJP did not reach the magic figure, it emerged as the single largest party. While BJP crossed 100 mark, Congress could not cross even 80. But, when voting percentage is taken into consideration, it is the Congress which got better score. Congress leaders are claiming that this only proves the confidence of people in Congress. BJP has taken the victory in Karnataka very seriously.
However, it could not garner enough support to its strategy to show their strength in South India via Karnataka in 2019 elections. As usual there are allegations that BJP tampered the EVMs. Of course it is normal for defeated to make such allegations.
If BJP receives such a blow from Telugus in Karnataka; what will be its state in 2019 Lok Sabha elections. If Telugu people show their influence in various States including Tamil Nadu, what will happen to BJP?
