Salman Khan sentenced to five years

Holding Bollywood star, ‘Sultan’ Salman Khan guilty in the blackbuck poaching case, the court sentenced him to five years in jail and imposed Rs 10,000 as a penalty. He was convicted under Section 51 of the Wildlife Protection Act. Other actors involved in the case are acquitted for lack of evidence. Two decades ago, while shooting for the film ‘Hum Sath Sath Hai’ in Jodhpur, Salman Khan and team ( Saif Alikhan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu, and Neelam) went on a hunting spree and killed black bucks. Salman Khan heroically shot at the blackbucks. A case was filed against them by local Bishnoi community which respects nature and wildlife. Since then the case took many twists and turns.

Earlier, the court had struck down charges against Salman Khan for lack of proper evidence. But the Bishnoi’s who were determined to get the culprit sentence pursued the case. Finally, Salman Khan was found guilty.

While the final arguments were completed by the end of March itself, the court reserved its verdict. The judge pronounced his verdict on Thursday. In this context, other actors- Saif Alikhan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu, and Neelam reached Jodhpur. As the judge did not immediately pronounce the verdict, the accused had to bear the nerve-wracking tension. Finally, the court relieved everyone except Salman Khan.

Everyone expected that Salman Khan will be sentenced to six years in Jail. The case is that serious. It is a crime to hunt black bucks and to procure weapons illegally. The legal experts have been arguing from the beginning that it is difficult for him to come out of the case. But, he is known for getting out of cases by using loopholes in the law.

In fact, it is not new for Salman to court controversies. Salman was proved guilty in a case, where he ran over people sleeping on the pavement in a drunken state. However, as there was no proper evidence to prove his crime, charges against him were struck down. Salman astonished everyone by being guilty and not guilty in the same case. He faced a lot of criticism for using influence and getting away. During the same time, there was hullabaloo over the suspicious death of one of Salman’s bodyguards’.

Earlier, when Salman Khan was punished and put in Jail, his former girlfriend Katrina Kaif supported and consoled him. But now they are separated. Presently the hot topic in Bollywood is which heroine is going to console him.
On the other hand, it is natural for Salman’s lawyers to try for a bail. And it is equally normal that the hero will try to prove his innocence by approaching the higher court.
